NGC Gardening Study Schools

Do you want to learn the latest and greatest about gardening? How about refreshing yourself and your garden!

Then a National Garden Clubs, Inc. Gardening Study School is for you! Gardening Study Schools (GSS) were established in 1977 by National Garden Clubs, Inc. (NGC). They are one of the four NGC Schools offered to garden club members and the general public. These schools: Environmental, Flower Show, Gardening Study and Landscape Design help embrace the joys of gardening.

GSS is offered in four (4) courses, 2 day sessions and completed within a two year period. The courses cover all aspects of growing from understanding soil structure to pruning techniques and plant identification. Topics include basic botany, soils, growing annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs, fruits and vegetables, lawns, pests and diseases of plants, plant classification, pruning and selected topics of local interest. The GSS format follows a handbook for the courses, the forms and time line schedule.

The courses require registration and a nominal fee and are "open to the general public" and all garden club members. Garden club members completing the series of four courses and passing each course test are awarded the designation of Gardening Consultant. General public attendees may attain Consultant status by joining a garden club during the course series or after completion of a GSS series.

If any garden club member, friend or the general public are interested in a GSS, you can contact your state GSS Chairman or Deep South Region GSS Chairman.

Let's learn something new about gardening!
